Where the Hijet Truck fits
Daihatsu has built the Hijet continuously since 1960, and the 1990s trucks use the 659cc EF three-cylinder beneath a cab-over body. What sets the Hijet apart from its rivals is the sheer number of factory configurations: flat bed, panel van, deck van, hydraulic tipper, scissor lift, power-take-off and more all came down the same line. Work specifications were offered with a low-range transfer case and a locking rear differential.
The reading is 44,053 miles, which converts to roughly 70,900 km. Daihatsu's EF three-cylinder was fitted to the Hijet across two decades and several body styles, so the engine family has a very long track record behind it.
How this one is set up
The appeal of a 4WD Hijet is the combination of a sub-3.5-metre footprint with drive to all four wheels: it will get into a space a pickup cannot and still haul itself out of a wet field. Daihatsu built this chassis for working customers, with the engine under the cab floor driving the rear axle and a selectable front axle for when the surface demands it.
The $5,000 to $8,000 band is where most imported kei trucks sit, and it is where supply is deepest — which means the most choice of year, drivetrain and body style. Our price guide breaks down what moves a truck between bands.
How the purchase works
The 1995 build year puts it outside the 25-year window that restricts importing vehicles built to a foreign specification. Customs entry, import documentation and title work are all done here, and we arrange transport to any state. Asking $5,700. Contact us and we will reserve it against your name.
