U62W Town Box: the short version

The Town Box is the passenger version of the Minicab van, and U62W is the four-wheel-drive one from 1999 onwards. Mitsubishi fitted proper seating, trim and glass to the Minicab shell and registered it as a car. The 657cc 3G83 and the drivetrain are the commercial van's, so it is a Minicab in everything but the interior.

Recorded at 43,856 miles, which is about 70,600 km. Mitsubishi's 3G83 three-cylinder ran in the Minicab for more than twenty years across two chassis generations, so it is a thoroughly proven unit in this application.

Reading the specification

The kei van format is a statutory 3.4-metre footprint with almost all of it turned into enclosed, flat-floored load space. The engine lives under the cab, the floor is flat from the bulkhead back, and the result holds more than its exterior dimensions suggest is possible.

In this band a kei van is carrying specification: four-wheel drive, a turbocharged engine, a high-roof body or a factory conversion. The plain commercial versions do not reach this far.
