About the U41V Minicab Van
The U41V is the rear-drive Minicab van of the 1990s — the U41T truck chassis with an enclosed steel body. The 657cc 3G83 sits under the cab floor, which keeps the load bay flat and square from the bulkhead back. Mitsubishi sold it both as a two-seat commercial and with a folding rear bench.
Recorded at 41,500 miles, which is about 66,800 km. Mitsubishi's 3G83 three-cylinder ran in the Minicab for more than twenty years across two chassis generations, so it is a thoroughly proven unit in this application.
In use
A two-wheel-drive van gives you the same footprint as the equivalent truck with a dry, lockable, weatherproof load bay instead of an open deck. Nothing is lost mechanically — the engine, chassis and running gear are the truck's — and what is gained is the ability to leave tools and stock in it.
Under $5,000 buys an older Japanese van with a dry, lockable load bay — a fraction of what any comparable work van costs domestically, with the trade-off being age and the reading on the clock.
