Where the KS3 Sambar fits
KS3 is the rear-drive Sambar truck of 1990 to 1999 — and rear drive here is literal, because Subaru hung the engine behind the rear axle rather than putting it under the cab. The engine itself is the one thing no other kei truck had: the EN07, a 658cc inline *four*, where every rival used three cylinders. Weight over the driven axle and four smaller pistons are the two reasons Sambar owners talk about these the way they do.
It shows 70,700 miles on a gauge originally calibrated in kilometres, which puts it near 113,800 km. That sits in the middle of the band Sambars of this generation generally arrive at.
How this one is set up
A two-wheel-drive Sambar is rear-engined and rear-driven, which is a genuinely unusual thing to say about a pickup. The whole engine assembly sits behind the rear axle, directly above and behind the driven wheels, so the configuration carries a traction advantage that most two-wheel-drive trucks of any size simply do not have.
Rather than list a figure, we quote this one when you ask. That way the number you get already includes getting the truck to your address, which is the part most online prices leave out.
The buying process
Built in 1996, it sits the far side of the 25-year federal import cut-off. You do not deal with the import paperwork; we do, and we organise delivery to your address. There is a walkaround video on this listing alongside the photographs. Ask us for a price and include your delivery state; we will quote the vehicle and the transport together.
