On the KS4 Sambar
The KS4 is the four-wheel-drive Sambar truck built through the 1990s, and it inherits the layout Subaru stuck with long after everyone else abandoned it: the 658cc EN07 four-cylinder mounted at the very back, behind the rear axle line. Drive runs forward to the front wheels when selected. Four cylinders in a kei engine is the Sambar's signature, and the rear weight bias is why it is the one people pick for traction with an empty bed.
The gauge reads 8,000 miles, or about 12,900 km as it was marked from the factory — a low figure by the standards of the Sambar's Japanese working life.
Reading the specification
A four-wheel-drive Sambar is traction-biased before the front axle is even engaged, because Subaru put the engine behind the rear wheels. The rear tyres carry the engine's weight permanently, which is the thing Sambar owners single the truck out for — an empty kei truck bed is light, and the Sambar is the one that minds it least.
Rather than list a figure, we quote this one when you ask. That way the number you get already includes getting the truck to your address, which is the part most online prices leave out.
Next steps
Built in 1997, it sits the far side of the 25-year federal import cut-off. We take care of the entry documents and the title, then arrange shipping to wherever you are. There is a walkaround video on this listing alongside the photographs. There is no list price on this one. Send us a message with your location and we will put a figure to it.
