The S83P Hijet explained
The S83P is the four-wheel-drive Hijet truck of the early 1990s, running Daihatsu's 659cc EF three-cylinder after the kei displacement limit rose. Climber and other work specifications of this chassis were sold with a low-range transfer case and a locking rear differential, which is why the S83 turns up in agricultural use far more than its road-biased sibling.
The gauge shows 88,800 miles, around 142,900 km. Daihatsu has been building kei commercials since the 1950s, overwhelmingly for working owners, and readings in this range are a normal part of that history.
What it is for
A four-wheel-drive Hijet is the configuration Daihatsu sold to Japanese farms and construction trades, and the body options reflect it — this is the chassis that got the tippers, the lifts and the power-take-off drives. Drive runs rearward from the under-cab engine with a selectable front axle, so the truck behaves as a rear-driver on tarmac and brings the front wheels in only when asked.
This sits in the cheapest band of the market. At this level a 1990 Daihatsu Hijet Truck is competing with used garden machinery and utility vehicles on price while offering a cab, a heater and a licence plate, which is the argument most buyers at this end are making.
Next steps
At 1990 it is past the 25-year mark, which is the line that decides whether a Japanese-market vehicle can be imported at all. We handle the import and title paperwork, and delivery is available to all fifty states. This listing carries a walkaround video as well as the gallery. Asking $4,210.
