Hijet Dump: the short version
Daihatsu has built the Hijet continuously since 1960, and the 1990s trucks use the 659cc EF three-cylinder beneath a cab-over body. What sets the Hijet apart from its rivals is the sheer number of factory configurations: flat bed, panel van, deck van, hydraulic tipper, scissor lift, power-take-off and more all came down the same line. Work specifications were offered with a low-range transfer case and a locking rear differential.
The reading is 40,735 miles, which converts to roughly 65,600 km. Daihatsu's EF three-cylinder was fitted to the Hijet across two decades and several body styles, so the engine family has a very long track record behind it.
What the specification means
A hydraulic tipper changes what the vehicle is for. Instead of shovelling a load out of a fixed bed you raise the deck and let gravity do it, which turns a two-person job into a one-person one. Daihatsu built these on the production line rather than leaving them to converters, so the pump, ram and bed hinges are matched to the chassis, and the four-wheel drive gets the loaded truck to where the load is needed.
Between $5,000 and $8,000 a factory dump-bodied kei truck is sensibly priced — the hydraulics are the part you are paying for, and a converter would charge most of this band to fit them to a flat-bed afterwards.
The buying process
Because it was built in 1998, the federal 25-year exemption applies and the usual FMVSS and EPA conformity requirements fall away. Customs entry, import documentation and title work are all done here, and we arrange transport to any state. Asking $7,700. Contact us and we will reserve it against your name.
