About the KS4 Sambar
The KS4 is the four-wheel-drive Sambar truck built through the 1990s, and it inherits the layout Subaru stuck with long after everyone else abandoned it: the 658cc EN07 four-cylinder mounted at the very back, behind the rear axle line. Drive runs forward to the front wheels when selected. Four cylinders in a kei engine is the Sambar's signature, and the rear weight bias is why it is the one people pick for traction with an empty bed.
Odometer: 43,908 miles, approximately 70,700 km. Subaru's EN07 is a 658cc inline-four rather than a triple, so it turns over with four smaller reciprocating masses than anything else in the class, and the model's surviving population covers a wide span of readings.
What the specification means
The Sambar's layout does the heavy lifting here regardless of how the front axle is specified: a 658cc four-cylinder mounted behind the rear wheels, a completely flat bed floor with no drivetrain running beneath it, and a weight distribution that no other kei truck shares. Subaru kept that arrangement for decades after everybody else had abandoned it.
Above $12,000 a kei truck is being priced on specification rather than transport. A 1998 Subaru Sambar 4WD, 2Hi-4Hi, EL Gear, AC, 5MT, Like New! in this band is normally carrying hardware or a configuration that the ordinary working trucks do not.
How the purchase works
At 1998 it is past the 25-year mark, which is the line that decides whether a Japanese-market vehicle can be imported at all. You do not deal with the import paperwork; we do, and we organise delivery to your address. It is listed at $13,900. Get in touch to put a hold on it.
