Hijet Truck: the short version
The Hijet generation Daihatsu launched in 1999 was the first drawn to the enlarged kei standard, and it moved to the twin-cam, fuel-injected EF-VE version of the 659cc triple — a clear step in refinement over the single-cam engine before it. The Jumbo extended cab, which trades a little bed length for a reclining seat and a storage shelf behind the driver, belongs to this range.
It carries 15,446 miles — about 24,900 km, the figure the gauge was actually calibrated in. That is at the lower end of the spread for Daihatsu kei vehicles leaving the Japanese market.
Reading the specification
The appeal of a 4WD Hijet is the combination of a sub-3.5-metre footprint with drive to all four wheels: it will get into a space a pickup cannot and still haul itself out of a wet field. Daihatsu built this chassis for working customers, with the engine under the cab floor driving the rear axle and a selectable front axle for when the surface demands it.
This is the middle of the kei truck market. A 1999 Daihatsu Hijet Truck at this money is the ordinary working configuration rather than a specialist one: a straight bed, a common chassis, and the parts supply that comes with a model sold in volume.
How the purchase works
Built in 1999, it sits the far side of the 25-year federal import cut-off. Import documentation and titling are handled at our end, and we ship nationwide. The asking price is $6,700 — contact us to reserve it.
