Know the Hijet Truck
The Hijet generation Daihatsu launched in 1999 was the first drawn to the enlarged kei standard, and it moved to the twin-cam, fuel-injected EF-VE version of the 659cc triple — a clear step in refinement over the single-cam engine before it. The Jumbo extended cab, which trades a little bed length for a reclining seat and a storage shelf behind the driver, belongs to this range.
Odometer at 54,220 miles, call it 87,300 km. Daihatsu kei vehicles of this period arrive across a wide band of readings, and this one falls in the middle of it.
What it is for
A four-wheel-drive Hijet is the configuration Daihatsu sold to Japanese farms and construction trades, and the body options reflect it — this is the chassis that got the tippers, the lifts and the power-take-off drives. Drive runs rearward from the under-cab engine with a selectable front axle, so the truck behaves as a rear-driver on tarmac and brings the front wheels in only when asked.
The $5,000 to $8,000 band is where most imported kei trucks sit, and it is where supply is deepest — which means the most choice of year, drivetrain and body style. Our price guide breaks down what moves a truck between bands.
The buying process
With a 2000 build year it clears the 25-year rule that applies to importing vehicles never sold new in the US. We take care of the entry documents and the title, then arrange shipping to wherever you are. The asking price is $6,700 — contact us to reserve it.
