The S210-series Hijet explained
S210 is the four-wheel-drive Hijet of 1999 to 2004, built to the post-1998 kei dimensions with the fuel-injected, twin-cam 659cc EF. Daihatsu offered this chassis in more factory configurations than any rival: flat bed, deck van, panel van, scissor-lift, hydraulic tipper and power-take-off driven bodies all left the line on the S210. Low-range transfer cases and locking rear differentials were available on the work specifications.
Odometer at 58,700 miles, call it 94,500 km. Daihatsu kei vehicles of this period arrive across a wide band of readings, and this one falls in the middle of it.
What you are buying
Four-wheel drive under a van body is the specification for people who need the load bay dry and the vehicle capable of leaving a made road. The front axle is selectable from the cab, and the enclosed body adds nothing to the drivetrain's job beyond a little weight and a great deal of security.
Under $5,000 buys an older Japanese van with a dry, lockable load bay — a fraction of what any comparable work van costs domestically, with the trade-off being age and the reading on the clock.
