The JB23W Jimny, in context

JB23W is the third-generation Jimny, launched in 1998 and built in Japan for twenty years. It is the kei-class version: a ladder frame, live axles on coil springs at both ends, part-time four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case and a low range, and the turbocharged 658cc K6A twin-cam. Nothing else sold in the kei class has that drivetrain, which is why the Jimny has a following far outside Japan.
