Where the U42T Minicab fits
U42T is the four-wheel-drive Minicab truck Mitsubishi built from 1991 to 1998, with the 657cc 3G83 three-cylinder beneath the cab. Work specifications of this chassis were offered with a two-speed transfer case and a crawler gear, and the Minicab was one of the few kei trucks sold with a factory power-take-off for driving a tipper or a pump. Mitsubishi also supplied this generation to Nissan as the Clipper.
The odometer sits at 10,983 miles, in the order of 17,700 km in the original units — a modest figure for a Mitsubishi kei vehicle returning from Japanese service.
What it is for
The 2Hi-4Hi-4Lo marking on a Minicab means a two-speed transfer case: high range for the road, low range for pulling. Low range multiplies engine torque through a second reduction, which is what lets a 660cc truck move a loaded bed up a slope at walking pace without slipping the clutch. Mitsubishi fitted this to the work specifications, often alongside a factory power-take-off.
This is the middle of the kei truck market. A 1994 Mitsubishi Minicab TD 4WD, 2Hi-4Hi-4Lo, 5MT, Great Value at this money is the ordinary working configuration rather than a specialist one: a straight bed, a common chassis, and the parts supply that comes with a model sold in volume.
