U42T Minicab: the short version
U42T is the four-wheel-drive Minicab truck Mitsubishi built from 1991 to 1998, with the 657cc 3G83 three-cylinder beneath the cab. Work specifications of this chassis were offered with a two-speed transfer case and a crawler gear, and the Minicab was one of the few kei trucks sold with a factory power-take-off for driving a tipper or a pump. Mitsubishi also supplied this generation to Nissan as the Clipper.
Recorded at 42,780 miles, which is about 68,800 km. Mitsubishi's 3G83 three-cylinder ran in the Minicab for more than twenty years across two chassis generations, so it is a thoroughly proven unit in this application.
Why this configuration
The 2Hi-4Hi-4Lo marking on a Minicab means a two-speed transfer case: high range for the road, low range for pulling. Low range multiplies engine torque through a second reduction, which is what lets a 660cc truck move a loaded bed up a slope at walking pace without slipping the clutch. Mitsubishi fitted this to the work specifications, often alongside a factory power-take-off.
At this level a 1997 Mitsubishi Minicab VX Special Edition 4WD, 2Hi-4Hi-4Lo, 5MT, PS is priced above the volume band, which in this market normally reflects a later generation, an unusual drivetrain specification, or factory equipment that did not come as standard.
How the purchase works
