What the KS4 Sambar is
The KS4 is the four-wheel-drive Sambar truck built through the 1990s, and it inherits the layout Subaru stuck with long after everyone else abandoned it: the 658cc EN07 four-cylinder mounted at the very back, behind the rear axle line. Drive runs forward to the front wheels when selected. Four cylinders in a kei engine is the Sambar's signature, and the rear weight bias is why it is the one people pick for traction with an empty bed.
The gauge reads 5,188 miles, or about 8,300 km as it was marked from the factory — a low figure by the standards of the Sambar's Japanese working life.
What the specification means
The Sambar's layout does the heavy lifting here regardless of how the front axle is specified: a 658cc four-cylinder mounted behind the rear wheels, a completely flat bed floor with no drivetrain running beneath it, and a weight distribution that no other kei truck shares. Subaru kept that arrangement for decades after everybody else had abandoned it.
The $12,000 to $20,000 band is where specialist kei trucks sit — low-range transfer cases, locking differentials, factory work bodies, late chassis and genuinely low readings. These are not volume trucks and they do not come up often.
Paperwork and shipping
The 1995 build year puts it outside the 25-year window that restricts importing vehicles built to a foreign specification. Import documentation and titling are handled at our end, and we ship nationwide. Asking $16,900. Contact us and we will reserve it against your name.
