Hijet Dump: the short version

Daihatsu has built the Hijet continuously since 1960, and the 1990s trucks use the 659cc EF three-cylinder beneath a cab-over body. Putting it to work

A hydraulic tipper changes what the vehicle is for. Instead of shovelling a load out of a fixed bed you raise the deck and let gravity do it, which turns a two-person job into a one-person one. Daihatsu built these on the production line rather than leaving them to converters, so the pump, ram and bed hinges are matched to the chassis, and the four-wheel drive gets the loaded truck to where the load is needed.
