Background on the DD51T Carry
DD51T is the four-wheel-drive Carry built from 1991 to 1999, and it is one of the most widely exported kei trucks of its era. The 657cc F6A sits beneath the cab floor and drives the rear axle, with a selectable front axle and, on many trucks, an extra-low crawler gear in the gearbox. Suzuki also supplied this generation to Mazda, which sold it as the Scrum.
The odometer records 14,851 miles, which is in the region of 23,900 km in the units the dial was printed in — toward the low end for a Carry-family vehicle coming out of Japan.
The practical side
The 4WD Carry is the default working kei truck in much of rural Japan. The layout is the orthodox one — cab over the front axle, engine under the floor, longest bed in the class for the length — with a front axle you select from the cab. On a farm track or a building plot that is the whole argument for it.
The $5,000 to $8,000 band is where most imported kei trucks sit, and it is where supply is deepest — which means the most choice of year, drivetrain and body style. Our price guide breaks down what moves a truck between bands.
Buying this one
A 1997 build date places this vehicle beyond the 25-year threshold that governs importing a non-US-market car into the United States. We take care of the entry documents and the title, then arrange shipping to wherever you are. The figure is $7,800, and a message is all it takes to put it aside.
