Carry: the short version

Later Carrys keep the formula Suzuki has used since 1961 — cab over the front axle, engine beneath the floor, the longest bed anyone fits in the kei length limit — with a modern twin-cam 660cc engine and, on many trucks, a locking rear differential available from the factory.

Shown on the clock: 26,344 miles, near enough 42,400 km. Suzuki's F6A and K6A three-cylinders were produced in enormous numbers across the Carry, Every and Jimny ranges, so the model line's service history as a whole is unusually well documented.

Why this configuration

The 4WD Carry is the default working kei truck in much of rural Japan. The layout is the orthodox one — cab over the front axle, engine under the floor, longest bed in the class for the length — with a front axle you select from the cab. On a farm track or a building plot that is the whole argument for it.

Between $8,000 and $12,000 the market moves from ordinary trucks to better ones: later chassis, lower readings, fuel injection, air conditioning, or a factory option that is hard to find. The step up from the mid band is usually specification rather than condition.
