Background on the Suzuki

The kei class has run to the same dimensional ceiling — 3.40 metres long, 1.48 metres wide, 2.00 metres tall, 660cc — since 1998, so a current kei truck occupies precisely the same footprint as one built twenty-five years ago while carrying modern restraint systems and emissions equipment.

The odometer records 17,933 miles, which is in the region of 28,900 km in the units the dial was printed in — toward the low end for a Carry-family vehicle coming out of Japan.

In use

A four-wheel-drive kei van is a small, dry, lockable load box that will still leave a sealed road. The engine sits under the cab floor in the usual kei arrangement and the front axle is selected from inside, so the van drives as a rear-driver until it needs not to. Within the class this is the most practical all-weather configuration there is.

This one is near-new rather than a thirty-year-old import, and it is priced on that basis — current specification, delivery mileage, no accumulated service history to read.
