Overview

About This 1997 Subaru Sambar

What you are looking at is a 1997 Subaru Sambar HD Dump 4WD, 2Hi-4Hi, EL Gear, 5MT, wearing White, held in our US inventory. It has a manual box. The number on the plate is KS4-319873.

What the KS4 Sambar is

KS4 denotes the selectable four-wheel-drive version of Subaru's fifth-generation Sambar, produced from 1990 until 1999. Its 658cc EN07 is an inline-four — unique in a class of three-cylinders — and it sits behind the rear axle under the bed floor, which puts the engine's mass where a kei truck most needs it. Subaru offered the EN07 in carburetted, fuel-injected and supercharged forms across the range.

Odometer: 40,876 miles, approximately 65,800 km. Subaru's EN07 is a 658cc inline-four rather than a triple, so it turns over with four smaller reciprocating masses than anything else in the class, and the model's surviving population covers a wide span of readings.

In use

A factory dump bed is a hinged, reinforced deck with a hydraulic ram beneath it, operated from the cab or from a lever at the side. For moving soil, gravel, bark, feed or spoil it halves the labour of the job, and on a kei chassis it does so from a vehicle that parks in a normal space.

This band covers the serious work specifications — heavy-duty and power-take-off driven dump bodies, scissor lifts, and the four-wheel-drive chassis with low range that go under them. These were expensive vehicles new and they have held their position.
