Where the DD51T Carry fits
DD51T is the four-wheel-drive Carry built from 1991 to 1999, and it is one of the most widely exported kei trucks of its era. The 657cc F6A sits beneath the cab floor and drives the rear axle, with a selectable front axle and, on many trucks, an extra-low crawler gear in the gearbox. Suzuki also supplied this generation to Mazda, which sold it as the Scrum.
The instrument reads 75,900 miles, roughly 122,100 km on its original kilometre scale. The Carry has been built continuously since 1961 and its engines were designed around sustained commercial use.
Why this configuration
The 4WD Carry is the default working kei truck in much of rural Japan. The layout is the orthodox one — cab over the front axle, engine under the floor, longest bed in the class for the length — with a front axle you select from the cab. On a farm track or a building plot that is the whole argument for it.
This sits in the cheapest band of the market. At this level a 1997 Suzuki Carry Truck is competing with used garden machinery and utility vehicles on price while offering a cab, a heater and a licence plate, which is the argument most buyers at this end are making.
