About the DD51T Carry
DD51T is the four-wheel-drive Carry built from 1991 to 1999, and it is one of the most widely exported kei trucks of its era. The 657cc F6A sits beneath the cab floor and drives the rear axle, with a selectable front axle and, on many trucks, an extra-low crawler gear in the gearbox. Suzuki also supplied this generation to Mazda, which sold it as the Scrum.
The odometer records 9,702 miles, which is in the region of 15,600 km in the units the dial was printed in — toward the low end for a Carry-family vehicle coming out of Japan.
The practical side
A locking rear differential does one specific thing: it stops an open differential sending all the torque to the wheel with least grip. With the lock engaged both rear wheels turn together, which is what gets a light-rear-ended truck off wet grass or out of a rut. It is a work-specification fitting rather than standard equipment.
The $12,000 to $20,000 band is where specialist kei trucks sit — low-range transfer cases, locking differentials, factory work bodies, late chassis and genuinely low readings. These are not volume trucks and they do not come up often.
How the purchase works
Because it was built in 1998, the federal 25-year exemption applies and the usual FMVSS and EPA conformity requirements fall away. The paperwork side — import documentation and title — is our job, and we deliver anywhere in the US. The figure is $13,800, and a message is all it takes to put it aside.
