The S200-series Hijet explained

The S200 codes are the rear-drive Hijets of 1999 to 2004, the first drawn to the enlarged kei standard. Daihatsu moved the range to the twin-cam, 12-valve EF-VE version of its 659cc three-cylinder with fuel injection, which was a real step in refinement over the single-cam engine before it. The Jumbo extended cab, which steals a little bed length to give the driver a reclining seat, belongs to this generation.

The reading is 31,642 miles, which converts to roughly 50,900 km. Daihatsu's EF three-cylinder was fitted to the Hijet across two decades and several body styles, so the engine family has a very long track record behind it.

The configuration

The Hijet's strength is the breadth of what Daihatsu built on the chassis. The same cab-over truck left the factory as a flat bed, a tipper, a scissor lift, a mobile kitchen and a dozen other things, all engineered around a 660cc engine under the cab floor and a frame rated for the kei class payload.
