The DB52T Carry explained
The DB52T is the four-wheel-drive Carry truck of 1999 onwards, built to the post-1998 kei standard of 3.40 metres by 1.48 metres. Its fuel-injected 657cc F6A gave up the carburettor that the previous generation used, which is the main mechanical difference between a DB52T and a DD51T. Suzuki continued to offer a low-range transfer case and a locking rear differential on work-specification trucks in this range.
The odometer records 11,619 miles, which is in the region of 18,700 km in the units the dial was printed in — toward the low end for a Carry-family vehicle coming out of Japan.
Why this configuration
Low range is the feature that separates a working kei truck from a four-wheel-drive one. A second set of reduction gears in the transfer case multiplies torque and divides road speed, so the truck can creep up a slope or out of a rut under load without the clutch doing the work. On a 660cc engine it is not a luxury — it is what makes the gradient possible at all.
Above $12,000 a kei truck is being priced on specification rather than transport. A 1999 Suzuki Carry EFI 4WD, 2Hi-4Hi-4Lo, 5MT, Next Gen in this band is normally carrying hardware or a configuration that the ordinary working trucks do not.
How to take it
With a 1999 build year it clears the 25-year rule that applies to importing vehicles never sold new in the US. The paperwork side — import documentation and title — is our job, and we deliver anywhere in the US. The figure is $17,900, and a message is all it takes to put it aside.
